Kate Middleton made a striking return to public duties this week as she stepped into the Salesforce Tower in London for the Shaping Us: Future Workforce Summit. The Princess of Wales appeared confident and glowing in a tailored grey Roland Mouret suit, arriving on Tuesday the 18th for an event hosted by The Royal Foundation’s Business Taskforce for Early Childhood. It was her first public speech since revealing her cancer diagnosis last year, transforming the day into both a working engagement and a deeply personal milestone.
Kate was warmly welcomed by former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate. The two shared a brief greeting before he later joined a discussion on leadership, childhood and the importance of community. More than eighty business leaders attended, gathering to support efforts that encourage companies to invest more intentionally in early years development.
A Message Rooted in Compassion

During her opening remarks, Kate delivered a sincere appeal. She encouraged business leaders to think beyond profit and to invest in environments that nurture children and the people who raise them. She spoke of a loving home as the place that teaches us how to care and how every surrounding has the power to shape a child’s heart. Kate urged companies to support caregivers of children under five and reminded the room that financial success and human impact do not oppose each other. Her message underlined a belief she has repeated throughout her work. The foundation for a stronger future workforce begins in early childhood.
This appearance also marked a meaningful moment in her recovery journey. Kate stepped back from public life in March 2024 after confirming she had been diagnosed with cancer following abdominal surgery. She later completed chemotherapy and entered remission in the autumn, slowly resuming her royal schedule in recent months. During her speech, she paused to thank Christian Guy for leading The Centre in her absence and acknowledged the support that helped keep her initiatives moving forward.

Throughout the summit, Kate’s polished wardrobe carried its own quiet symbolism. Her light grey suit and soft ruffled blouse offered a blend of professionalism and warmth. She completed the look with her Mappin and Webb Empress earrings. These are the same earrings she wore to Princess Charlotte’s christening in 2015. jewellery designer Trang Do explained that their reappearance added a personal touch to the occasion, tying the Princess’s early years advocacy to her role as a mother.
As the summit continued, Kate joined the audience for a conversation between Sir Gareth Southgate and research psychologist Professor Marc Brackett. The event also highlighted the progress made by her business task force since its launch in March 2023. Companies such as IKEA, NatWest, Iceland and the Co-op have already begun implementing family focused initiatives that support both parents and children. The collective efforts have reached more than half a million babies and young children so far, with a goal to double that figure by 2026.
Kate now moves into a busy stretch of engagements. Her next appearance is scheduled for the Royal Variety Performance on Wednesday night where she is expected to join Prince William in a formal evening setting.
