Prince William makes sweet nod to his father King Charles in new speech

Prince William has expressed that he is “pleased” to carry forward the work of his father, King Charles, in a recent speech.

The Prince of Wales made the remark during his appearance at the Wales Investment Summit in Newport earlier on December 1st.

During his address, he also fondly reflected on the years he and the Princess of Wales spent living on Anglesey.
Prince William’s engagements in Wales

The week began with Prince William visiting a newly opened facility of the global semiconductor company KLA in Newport, South Wales.

After touring the site, he delivered a keynote speech aimed at encouraging greater business investment in Wales. He opened his remarks with “Prynhawn da,” greeting the audience of around 300 people with “good afternoon” in Welsh, before thanking them for attending the summit.

From 2010 to 2013, William and Catherine lived together on the peaceful island of Anglesey in North Wales. At the time, William was serving as a search and rescue helicopter pilot at RAF Valley, and the couple rented a farmhouse on the Bodorgan Estate. It remains a period of his life the heir to the throne remembers warmly.

“When you build a life in Wales, you become part of a family of three million,” he said.
“Wales was the first place Catherine and I called home when we lived on Anglesey. When you make a home here, you join a community that offers warmth, connection, and a sense of belonging unlike anywhere else.”

‘I am pleased to continue my father’s legacy’

Turning back to economic topics, Prince William added:
“I am pleased to continue the work of my father, the King, who more than fifty years ago personally encouraged the co-founder of Sony to establish the company’s first European factory here in Wales.”

He continued, “That decision was more than an investment — it was a vote of confidence in the creativity and spirit of this nation. Its impact is still evident today, having created thousands of jobs and opportunities for local communities over the past five decades.

“His dedication to supporting Welsh business and innovation is something I am honored to carry on.”
