Meghan Markle set to avoid UK return again as Prince Harry determined to heal royal rift

Meghan Markle is reportedly not set to join Prince Harry in the UK later this month when the Duke will head to London for the WellChild awards.

Meghan Markle is set for a double snub of the UK as Prince Harry prepares to make a solo trip later this month.

The former actress is not set to join Harry in the UK nor attend the 2024 WellChild awards in London on September 30.

The Duke of Sussex’s attendance at the annual awards ceremony was confirmed last week, with the royal – who has been patron of the charity for 16 years – having been associated with the event for over a decade.

Speaking about Harry’s solo visit last year, GB News’s royal editor Svar Nanan-Sen told royal correspondent Cameron Walker that this year’s visit could be the same – with Meghan having not joined him for the 2023 awards.

Mr Nanan-Sen said: “It’s interesting, last year he [Harry] came back here for the WellChild awards and on September 7 [and] spent just a night in the UK and then immediately flew to Germany for the Invictus Games.

“Meghan Markle chose not to accompany Harry to the UK but then made the flight across to Europe anyway, and flew to the Invictus Games [in Germany] two days later and it was seen, at the time, as a snub.

“Meghan is not expected to join him on his trip to the UK this year for the WellChild awards but we may see Harry stick around for more than just a couple of days.”

Mr Nanan-Sen also added that, in extension to the awards ceremony – Harry could visit King Charles. They last met back in February when Harry flew to the UK after news of the King’s cancer diagnosis was made public.

WellChild appeared delighted to confirm Harry’s attendance, taking to X to share the news. They wrote: “We are delighted to announce that WellChild Patron Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, will attend the 2024 WellChild Awards, in association with @GSK, on 30th Sept. The Duke will meet our inspirational winners at a pre-ceremony reception before joining them in the main event.”

During this year’s appearance, the Duke of Sussex will present one of the inspirational winners with their awards and also deliver a speech.

He said: “I am once again honoured to attend this year’s WellChild Awards celebrating the remarkable courage and achievements of children living with complex medical needs.”

Meghan has not visited the UK since September 2022. Harry and Meghan were due to attend the WellChild awards on September 8, 2022, but – following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II earlier that day – the couple did not attend.
