Prince William and his brother Harry reportedly had a physical altercation following comments the future king made about Meghan Markle.
In his revealing 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry recounted the incident, which he said took place in 2019 at his home in Nottingham Cottage.
According to Harry, now 40, William, 42, referred to Meghan as “difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive.”

Prince William and Harry’s ‘fight’ over Meghan Markle
In a 2023 excerpt published by The Guardian, Harry shared in his memoir Spare that William wanted to discuss “the whole rolling catastrophe” — referring to their strained relationship and ongoing issues with the media.
But according to Harry, when William showed up, he was already “piping hot” — visibly angry.
Harry claimed that William criticized his wife Meghan, whom Harry married in 2018. In response, Harry accused William of echoing the media’s negative narrative and said he had expected more from him.
The conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument, with both brothers shouting at each other.
Harry also wrote that William insisted he was only trying to help.

In his autobiography, the Duke of Sussex recounted a heated exchange with his brother, Prince William. Harry recalled saying, “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?”
This remark reportedly infuriated William, who swore and moved toward Harry in anger.
Harry wrote that he walked into the kitchen, with William following close behind. He handed his brother a glass of water and said, “Willy, I can’t speak to you when you’re like this.”
The situation quickly escalated. According to Harry, William set the glass down, called him another name, and suddenly lunged.
“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” Harry wrote. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

How Meghan Markle ‘reacted’ to ‘fight’
Harry claimed that William encouraged him to fight back, but he refused. William then left, only to return later “looking regretful, and apologised.”
According to Harry, William said: “You don’t need to tell Meg about this.”
Harry responded: “You mean that you attacked me?”
To which William replied: “I didn’t attack you, Harold.”
Harry said he didn’t tell Meghan right away, but she later noticed “scrapes and bruises” on his back, and he eventually told her. Meghan, he added, “wasn’t that surprised, and wasn’t all that angry,” but she felt “terribly sad.”
William has not made any public statements about the incident, and the palace declined to comment at the time.
