Natural remedies for swollen ankles: causes, solutions and useful tips

Swollen ankles can be uncomfortable, but in most cases, they are not dangerous.

With a few natural strategies—such as cold compresses, massages, herbal teas with draining effects, and a more active lifestyle—you can reduce swelling and improve circulation. However, if symptoms persist, it’s always best to consult a doctor.

Soak your feet in warm water with 2–3 tablespoons of coarse salt. This relaxes tissues and improves circulation.

3. Herbal Teas with Draining Effects
Drink infusions made from:

  • Fennel
  • Birch
  • Nettle

These herbs promote urination and help eliminate excess fluids from the body.

4. Massages with Essential Oils
Use essential oils such as:

  • Peppermint
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender

Mix them with a carrier oil (like sweet almond oil) and massage the ankle gently from the bottom upward to support circulation.
