“Can’t Function Normally”: Kate Middleton’s Candid Cancer Confession Stuns Royal Fans

The Princess of Wales has made an emotional return to royal duties, speaking candidly about the ongoing struggles following her cancer treatment.

Kate Middleton, 43, recently visited Colchester Hospital in Essex, where she opened up about the difficulty of adjusting to life after chemotherapy.

Facing Recovery with Honesty

During her visit on July 2, Kate reflected on how the aftermath of treatment has been more complicated than expected. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she shared. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

She admitted that returning to everyday life hasn’t been easy, even after being declared in remission in January 2025. “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she said. “You have to find your new normal and that takes time… it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be.”

Her words struck a chord with many who have gone through similar experiences. Social media users called her “brave” and thanked her for her openness. One commented, “This resonates with me 100%,” while another wrote, “I’m still struggling sometimes after my cancer treatments—it’s hard to talk about.”

Back to Royal Duties—At Her Own Pace

Kate’s hospital visit included the planting of “Catherine’s Rose,” a new flower named in her honor by the Royal Horticultural Society. Fifty of these roses were delivered to Colchester Hospital, with 500 more being sent to well-being gardens across the UK.

Though her public appearances have resumed, insiders say the princess is taking things slowly. According to royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, Kate appeared confident at the recent Trooping the Colour celebration, standing beside her family on the Buckingham Palace balcony. “She projected the confidence of someone who has enthusiastically reconnected with her public duties,” Smith noted.

Healing Through Nature and Balance

Sources say Kate is finding strength in nature and solitude, especially at her homes in Norfolk and Windsor. Queen Elizabeth’s former spokeswoman, Ailsa Anderson, explained, “She gets so much sustenance in nature… She’ll be able to reenergize herself.”

Ailsa also noted that Kate is listening to her body and easing back into royal life thoughtfully. “She’s being sensible, setting boundaries, and going at her own pace,” she added.
