Trump’s niece says he can’t perform basic tasks like tying his shoes

Mary Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and the niece of former President Donald Trump, has once again drawn headlines for her stark assessment of her uncle’s mental condition — this time with particularly pointed language. In a recent installment of her YouTube commentary series Trump Trolls Trump, Mary described the former president’s current behavior as part of a broader “reign of idiocy.”

Speaking candidly, she said: “We’re now 166 days into the Trump regime’s reign of terror, reign of confusion, reign of chaos — but also, let’s call it what it is: a reign of idiocy.”

The statement is the latest in a long line of critiques from Mary Trump, who has publicly clashed with her uncle and other family members since the publication of her 2020 bestseller, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. This time, her comments came on the heels of growing public speculation — including segments aired on MSNBC — about Donald Trump’s cognitive health as he seeks to return to office in 2024.

Mary suggested that Donald Trump may be increasingly displaying signs of cognitive deterioration, drawing a parallel to his father Fred Trump Sr., who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease in his later years. She noted her concern that the former president’s erratic public behavior, frequent digressions, and meandering answers might reflect more than just a communication style — and instead point to deeper issues.

“I think he’s quite good at blending narcissism with decline,” she said, wryly referring to it as a “two-for-one” combination.

Public remarks spark fresh concerns

One particular moment that caught Mary’s attention was a recent public appearance in Florida, where Donald Trump made an unscripted visit to a controversial immigration facility. When asked a straightforward question about detention timelines, he responded with what Mary called an “incoherent stream of thought” that jumped from taxes in New York to the decor of the Oval Office. “The question wasn’t whether he likes Florida,” she said sharply. “He just doesn’t have an answer — or even a clear thought.”

In her video, Mary also expressed frustration over what she sees as her uncle’s resistance to engaging truthfully with the American people. “He sits there, denying people access to even the most basic truths,” she said.

Adding a final touch of satire, Mary took aim at Trump’s recently launched luxury fragrance, “Victory,” which is currently being sold for $249 on Truth Social and features a gold figurine of the former president on the bottle. “It’s grotesque,” she said. “But that’s what we’ve come to expect.”

While Mary Trump’s critiques may not be new, their tone continues to escalate — reflecting the high political stakes ahead and what she views as a growing risk to democratic norms. As the 2024 campaign season builds momentum, it’s clear that voices from within Trump’s own family won’t be staying silent.
