Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make surprising move despite ‘professional separation’

A significant update has emerged about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s partnership with Netflix.

After stepping down as senior royals in 2020 and moving from the UK to Montecito, California, the couple have offered only select glimpses into their life with their two children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4. Alongside their charitable organisation Archewell, both have pursued personal projects — including Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever and her Netflix cooking and lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.

The eight-part show features celebrity guests such as Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, Delfina Blaquier, and chef Roy Choi, inviting viewers into Meghan’s kitchen, garden, and even her beehive.

In September 2020, the Duke and Duchess signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce scripted series, documentaries, and children’s programmes. While their projects generated significant attention, late 2024 brought reports of a “professional separation” — with the couple focusing on separate ventures and appointing different chiefs of staff. Miranda Barbot, a political and media adviser, will work with Harry, while Sarah Fosmo, formerly an aide to Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, will manage Meghan’s projects, including the second season of With Love, Meghan and her podcast Confessions Of A Female Founder.

Despite speculation their streaming partnership might end, the Sussexes have now confirmed they are extending their first-look deal with Netflix through their production company, Archewell Productions. This move quashes rumours of a split with the platform — particularly given Meghan’s upcoming second season of her lifestyle series.

However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Express the royal family may have fresh concerns about what the couple might produce, warning that a tell-all documentary could be “damaging” given Harry’s strained ties with King Charles and Prince William.

The exact value of the renewed deal remains undisclosed, though their original Netflix contract was reportedly worth around $100 million (£75 million).
