Prince William and Kate Middleton make history as they move family to unexpected location

The Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing for a major change, as plans for their family of five to relocate to an unexpected new home have been unveiled.

Since August 2022, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—have lived in Adelaide Cottage, located within the Windsor Castle grounds. But after an 18-month period marked by Kate’s cancer diagnosis and treatment, the couple are ready for a new chapter.

A Fresh Start After Difficult Times

Speaking to the BBC, a royal source explained: “Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years, while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage, there have been some really difficult times.

“Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter. It’s an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.”

The family is now set to move into Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom residence in Windsor Great Park, which they intend to make their “forever home.” The couple envision it as the place they will continue to live once William and Kate become King and Queen.

This decision marks a royal first, as William will become the only monarch in history not to reside in a palace or castle once he ascends the throne.

A Historic Property With Stunning Views

Forest Lodge, built 328 years ago, is nestled within a secluded area of the 4,800-acre estate. The property offers sweeping views across Berkshire and London. For Kate, this will be especially meaningful—she has often described nature as her personal “sanctuary.”

Renovations at the Grade II-listed home are already underway, with costs expected to be privately funded by William and Kate rather than covered by the Sovereign Grant, the state funding provided to the monarchy.

Keeping Family Life Private

In keeping with their preference for a normal family environment, the Waleses are not expected to employ live-in staff, just as they did at Adelaide Cottage. Their goal remains to maintain a private and intimate household.

According to reports, the move could take place as early as Christmas, with the family looking forward to building happy new memories together in their new home.

The couple’s decision to remain in Windsor also reflects stability for their children, who are all happily settled at Lambrook School. With George, Charlotte, and Louis thriving in their studies, the new home ensures continuity for their education and day-to-day lives.
