Prince Harry and King Charles ‘to reunite’ for first time in nearly two years

Prince Harry is expected to reunite with his father, King Charles III, in just a few weeks — marking the first time the two have met in almost 20 months.

The Duke of Sussex has endured a strained relationship with the royal family since he and Meghan Markle stepped back from official duties in 2020 and relocated to California. Their decision sparked years of tension, with Harry later detailing his grievances in the couple’s explosive interviews, Netflix documentary, and his 2023 memoir Spare. Allegations of mistreatment and bullying left deep divides between the Sussexes and the institution.

Hope for Reconciliation

Despite the rift, Harry has recently suggested he is eager to rebuild ties with his family. In May, he told the BBC: “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. You know, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”

Now, according to a report in The Mirror, Harry and Charles are set to meet when the Duke travels to London in September to attend the WellChild Awards, a charity event he has supported for years. The ceremony, which Harry has attended 14 times before, coincides with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death on 8 September.

Sources told the outlet there is “determination on both sides” to make the reunion happen. One insider reportedly said: “Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry. For the first time in a long time, there’s a genuine sense that reconciliation is within reach. Prince Harry’s team and the Palace have opened a line of communication, and there is every hope that father and son will see one another when the Duke returns to London.”

Rift With William Remains

While the possibility of a meeting with his father appears promising, insiders dismissed any suggestion of reconciliation between Harry and his brother, Prince William. “As for Harry and William, though, any chance of reconciliation between them has been rejected out of hand,” a source told the publication.

Harry, who serves as a long-standing patron of WellChild, is expected to present an award to an inspirational child, deliver a speech, and meet with seriously ill children and their families during the London event.

Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Duke have yet commented on the reported reunion.
