Prince William Is Going Viral for His Interaction with a Baby Who Shares a Name with One of His Children

Prince William was in full dad mode during a royal outing earlier this summer when he met a baby who happened to share a name with his eldest son.

On June 6, the 43-year-old Prince of Wales attended The Royal Cornwall Show in Wadebridge, Cornwall, alongside his aunt, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, 60.

During the visit, William greeted 7-month-old George, a moment captured on video by George’s mother, Anna Rebecca, and later shared on Instagram on Aug. 7. The clip has since been viewed 1.4 million times.

In the footage, Anna says, “Hello! Nice to meet you,” before William tickled George’s front and complimented his outfit: “I love your top.” The baby’s name immediately drew a connection to the prince’s own son, Prince George, 12. William and Kate Middleton are also parents to Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.

William asked how old the baby was and remarked, “He’s so sweet… you’re very smiley.” He followed up with a question familiar to any parent: “He’s sleeping well?” to which Anna replied, “Now he is!” Before leaving, William waved and said, “You enjoy your tractors, mister.”

Anna later posted: “When George met Prince William at Royal Cornwall show I can’t believe I forgot to share this on here at the time.”

She also shared a clip of Sophie meeting George, with the Duchess making the baby grin and complimenting his outfit. “She was so lovely & made a real fuss of George,” Anna wrote.

The Royal Cornwall Show, dating back to 1793, attracts about 120,000 visitors each year and features livestock competitions, food, and drink. Both William and Sophie are patrons of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association.

William and Kate have long been known for warm interactions with children during engagements. In January, Kate surprised royal watchers when she stopped her convoy to greet a little girl calling, “Hello, princess!” Kate ran over, shook her hand, and chatted: “I heard you say, ‘Hello,’ from all the way back there, and I wanted to come and see you,” she told the girl, according to the BBC.

That same month, William charmed another young fan during a visit to Liverpool. When a boy named Mohammed asked, “Are you the King?” William smiled and replied, “No, I’m not, no. I’m his son,” referring to King Charles, before turning the conversation back to Mohammed: “What’s your name? How are you? Did you have a good day at school?”

As Anna summed it up: “He was absolutely lovely with George & took so much time to chat with us. We were so lucky.”
