Kate Middleton Shows Off Her Sh0cking Blonde Hair Transformation, the Biggest of Her Life, for the First Time

Kate Middleton has unveiled her new blonde look as she steps back into royal duties.

On September 4, the Princess of Wales, 43, joined Prince William, also 43, for a visit to the newly redesigned gardens at London’s Natural History Museum — their first joint appearance after the summer break.

After weeks of speculation about a lighter hair shade during an August sighting, this outing confirmed Kate’s sun-kissed highlights. Her hair, which now falls to the middle of her back, is the longest and blondest it has ever been. She styled it loose with her signature bouncy blowout and a soft side part.

A Subtle Transformation

Rumors about the color change first started on August 24, when cameras caught the Princess driving to church near Balmoral Castle in Scotland with Prince William and their three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. Her hair appeared golden in the sunlight, a clear contrast to the richer chestnut shade she wore in July at the Wimbledon Championships.

Over the years, Kate has often refreshed her look. She has tried short layers, curtain bangs, and sunny highlights, and in 2017, she even quietly donated seven inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy or radiation.

Speaking About Hair and Cancer Treatment

Kate has also shared personal reflections on hair during her cancer journey. In March 2024, she revealed she was undergoing treatment, later announcing in September that she had completed chemotherapy and confirming in January that she was in remission.

In January, while visiting The Royal Marsden Hospital, she met Katherine Field, a patient undergoing cancer treatment, who was wearing a cold cap — a scalp cooling device designed to minimize hair loss during chemotherapy. Field later told PEOPLE: “She just said that she didn’t have to have it. For her to lose her hair, which is so iconic, would have been awful. Everyone loves her hair!”

Passion for Nature and Return to Duty

Thursday’s engagement was particularly meaningful, as Kate is patron of the Natural History Museum and has often expressed her love for the outdoors — something that has been especially important to her during her diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

During the visit, she and Prince William were in good spirits, even when caught in a rain shower while spending time with schoolchildren exploring the museum gardens.

The outing also came the day after Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis returned to school for a new academic year. Over the summer months, the Wales family kept a low profile, spending their time together away from the spotlight.
