How Prince Louis and his siblings are getting a childhood their father “never had”

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are returning to Lambrook School for the 2024–2025 academic year, marking a significant milestone for the Wales family. This will be the last year all three siblings attend the same school, with George expected to move on to secondary education next year.

A New Chapter at Lambrook

Lambrook, a co-educational prep school near Windsor, has been home to the royal children since 2022. Known for its emphasis on both academics and outdoor learning, the school has provided George, Charlotte and Louis with a balanced environment to grow socially and academically. Reports suggest the children are thriving.

For Prince George, now 11, this year will likely be his last at Lambrook. Following tradition, Eton College—attended by both Prince William and Prince Harry—has been widely speculated as his next step, although no official confirmation has been made.

Family Life and Summer Traditions

The Wales family spent the summer balancing private time with public engagements. George and Charlotte accompanied their parents to Wimbledon in July, while six-year-old Louis delighted crowds at Trooping the Colour in June with his playful energy. In August, the family joined the rest of the royals at Balmoral, continuing their summer tradition in Scotland.

These carefully chosen appearances reflect William and Catherine’s parenting philosophy: allowing their children to take part in royal traditions while ensuring long stretches away from cameras in Windsor and Norfolk.

A Parenting Approach Shaped by Experience

Both William and Catherine have made it clear that privacy and stability are at the heart of their parenting. William, mindful of the scrutiny he endured growing up after the death of Princess Diana, has often spoken about wanting his children to have a more grounded childhood. Catherine has also tied her professional work on early childhood development to her personal life, highlighting the importance of secure family environments for long-term well-being.

In 2022, the family left Kensington Palace for Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, choosing more privacy and fewer distractions. Now, reports confirm they are preparing to move again—this time to Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom property also on the Windsor estate. The move, described as a “fresh start” after Catherine’s cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2024, offers the family more space while keeping their lifestyle intentionally private. Notably, they will continue their practice of having no live-in staff, preserving the sense of a home centered around their children.

Preparing the Next Generation

Prince George, second in line to the throne, will one day inherit immense responsibility, but his parents have deliberately delayed introducing him to the pressures of his future role. Instead, they have emphasized normal childhood experiences, letting all three siblings enjoy school, sports and family activities without being defined too early by royal duty.

This philosophy reflects lessons from past generations of royals, when heirs were often shaped too strictly by succession. By contrast, William and Catherine aim to raise their children as individuals first, royals second.

Looking Ahead

Catherine’s cancer journey has underscored the family’s commitment to protecting their children’s sense of normalcy. Their upcoming move to Forest Lodge is not just about space but also about stability, privacy and turning a page after difficult years.

In balancing tradition with everyday experiences, William and Catherine are modeling a modern approach to royal parenting. It is an approach that may well shape how future generations of the monarchy grow up—less formal, more grounded, and firmly rooted in family life.

As George, Charlotte and Louis continue their school years, they are being prepared not only for future royal duties but also for life as individuals, with a secure foundation built on both heritage and home.
