A Seven-Year-Old Girl Realized a Strange Man in Black Was Following Her — But Instead of Going Home, She Did Something No One Expected…
A seven-year-old girl was walking home from school. In her hands she carried her satchel, with notebooks sticking out at odd angles, and a scarf kept slipping off her shoulder. The courtyard was quiet and empty. Only one person was standing near the entrance of her building.
It was a tall man, dressed in a long black coat. His face was partly hidden by a scarf and a turned-up collar, but that alone was enough to make him look menacing.
He seemed to be waiting for someone. From time to time, he glanced around before fixing his eyes again on the house.
The girl felt uneasy. Her father’s words came back to her.
The man noticed her. His gaze grew heavy, suspicious. He took a few steps forward, as if checking to make sure there were no witnesses.
The street was deserted—no pedestrians, no cars. The girl’s heart began to pound, her palms turned clammy. The man quickened his pace.
She turned back—he was already very close. Her eyes darted around the stairwell. And then suddenly, she did something even the man in black hadn’t expected. Thanks to this quick action, the little girl stayed safe.
An idea flashed in her mind: Light! Noise!

She abruptly switched on every lamp in the stairwell, flooding the dark hall with light, and began pounding with all her strength on the nearest door.
“Help! Help!” she screamed, her voice cracking with panic.
The echo rang through the entire building. The man in black froze for a moment, as if he hadn’t expected a child to react with such determination.
Just then, a door flew open and a strong, broad-shouldered man in house clothes appeared in the doorway. Behind him, a woman peeked out.
“What’s going on here?” he demanded sternly, his eyes moving from the terrified girl to the strange man.
The man in black flinched, his eyes widening in surprise. Then he spun around and bolted from the building, disappearing into the dark courtyard.
The girl was still trembling, clutching her satchel tightly against her chest, but deep inside she felt a rising sense of pride. She remembered her father’s words and had done exactly what she was supposed to do. And that had saved her life.
