Meghan Markle’s latest appearance on Aspire With Emma Grede has stirred controversy, with several remarks interpreted as veiled criticism of the royal family.
Speaking on the podcast, the Duchess of Sussex discussed her path as an entrepreneur and reflected on her personal journey.
When host Emma Grede asked, “If you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything you would do differently?”, Meghan replied, “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.” Her answer quickly drew attention, with some viewing it as a subtle jab at the royals.
However, royal commentators were far from sympathetic. Several experts accused Meghan of hypocrisy, calling her comments disingenuous and branding her a “liar.”
Royal Experts Slam Markle’s Remarks
Royal experts Hugo Vickers, Samara Gill, and Matt Wilkinson shared their reactions on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, expressing disbelief over Markle’s latest statements.
Gill criticized the Duchess harshly, saying, “The fact is she is a constant liar and her whole brand is built on a spin of lies.” She added, “I don’t trust a word that woman says. I think it is very, very low for her to insinuate that we should listen to her truth or that the royal family should tell the truth.”
Pointing out what she called a lack of authenticity in the podcast, Gill suggested that the Sussexes’ former staff might have more to say about the “truth,” alluding to past allegations of bullying by Meghan during her time in the U.K. “I don’t want to listen to this woman about truth,” she continued. “The fact of the matter is that she is a constant liar.”
Vickers agreed, saying that Markle likely resents experts who “tell the truth” about her. He remarked, “I think Samara and I, as well as others, do tell the truth about her, and I don’t think she likes it very much.”
Vickers also attributed Meghan’s fame to her marriage rather than her personal achievements. “No one would actually listen to Meghan Markle if it wasn’t for the fact that she married Prince Harry,” he said.
“It’s because she’s married to Harry that it gives the soap opera quality that seems to appeal to everyone. Otherwise, people wouldn’t really care about her; many others are doing similar things on social media anyway.”
Meghan Responds to Criticism and Talks “Authenticity”
During the conversation, Grede asked whether Meghan feels frustrated seeing lies spread about her. The Duchess responded by sharing advice she once received from her close friend Serena Williams: “My dear friend Serena, she told me years ago: ‘A lie can’t live forever.’ Eight years is a long time, but not forever.”
Markle also addressed the backlash over her twerking video filmed during her pregnancy. “That was four years ago,” she said, “so it’s also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life – a real, authentic, fun life – that’s happening behind the scenes.”
Expressing gratitude for her return to social media, Meghan added that she finally feels free to express herself again. “I’ve found a place where I can speak from my heart on my own terms,” she said.
Despite her attempt to reclaim her narrative, her latest remarks have once again reignited the debate over her relationship with the monarchy — and the “truth” behind it.
