Meghan Markle celebrated her trip to Paris Fashion Week by sharing a video of herself riding through the French capital in a limousine along the Seine River.
Social media users quickly pinpointed that the clip was filmed near the Pont des Invalides—just minutes from the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, the site of Princess Diana’s fatal accident in 1997. That detail alone has fueled backlash, with critics labeling the video “tasteless.”
The Video That Stirred Debate
In the reel, Meghan can be seen gliding through Paris at night, her car passing the city’s signature spires and riverside walls. At one point, she films her feet as she relaxes in the car, then transitions to daytime footage featuring the Arc de Triomphe and lively Paris streets.
“About last night,” she captioned the post, tagging Balenciaga and designer Pierpaolo Piccioli. “Thank you @pppiccioli and @balenciaga. I missed you.”
Critics Call It “Insensitive”
The video quickly drew criticism, with the Daily Mail noting how close Meghan’s filming location was to where Diana, Dodi Fayed, and Henri Paul died in August 1997. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams was among the first to condemn the post, telling the outlet:
“I don’t understand what on earth she was thinking—well, she can’t have been thinking. No adviser would ever suggest doing something so strange.”
Fitzwilliams continued, “She has every right to attend fashion events, but to share a video that could be connected in any way to the tragedy of Princess Diana defies belief.”
He added that while Meghan likely meant no harm, “It’s insensitive beyond belief… another example of the Sussexes doing something that makes no sense.” Fitzwilliams also speculated that Prince Harry “would find this very inappropriate” and might be “absolutely horrified” by the timing and location of the video.
Fans React Harshly Online
Royal watchers echoed similar outrage across social media. “Someone please tell me Meghan didn’t film herself driving over that tunnel,” one commenter pleaded. Another replied, “Whether or not it was the exact location, filming herself cruising through Paris at night sends a clear message.”
Some comments grew especially harsh. “Markle is a beast. Anyone who supports her bears her mark,” one user fumed, while another accused her of intentionally trying to provoke her husband. “Could she have done this to push Harry to the point of a divorce?” one speculated, claiming Meghan “loves being a victim” and that such a scandal “would make her the ultimate one.”
The Fashion Week Mishaps
The controversy followed a few awkward moments from Meghan’s Paris Fashion Week appearance. Cameras caught her leaning in to greet Balenciaga’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, accidentally bumping her nose against his glasses. Her oversized white suit with a cape also drew mixed reviews, with some fans comparing the look to “unfolded bed sheets.”
A Glamorous Outing Overshadowed
What was meant to be a glamorous return to the Paris fashion scene has instead turned into a PR headache for Meghan Markle. A short reel meant to capture Parisian elegance now has critics questioning her judgment—and reopening old wounds tied to one of the royal family’s darkest moments.
