Former Vogue editor Anna Wintour reportedly gave Meghan Markle her seal of approval during Paris Fashion Week — with just five words.
The Duchess of Sussex attended the Balenciaga show on Saturday night (October 4), where she was seen greeting the fashion icon in a moment caught on camera. According to the Mirror, Wintour told Meghan: “Beautiful, cherie. You look amazing.”
It was a rare European appearance for Meghan, 44, who has not attended a major public event on the continent since the 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany. She appeared to be attending the show without her husband, Prince Harry.
A Chic All-White Look
Meghan turned heads in an elegant all-white ensemble featuring wide-leg trousers and a flowing blouse, topped with a dramatic cape that trailed behind her. She finished the look with black pointed-toe heels and a matching clutch.
According to Hello!, the outfit was designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the Italian fashion designer who was appointed creative director of Balenciaga in May 2025.
A spokesperson for Meghan told the outlet: “Over the years, the Duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo. They have worked closely together, collaborating on designs for key moments on the world stage. She has long admired his craftsmanship and modern elegance, and tonight was no different.”
Later in the evening, Meghan reportedly changed into a sleek black gown with an asymmetrical neckline for the Balenciaga after-party.
Backlash Over Instagram Clip
Following the event, the Duchess shared a highlight reel of her Paris trip on Instagram, featuring clips of her exploring the city, preparing for the show, and posing at the glamorous event. She captioned it: “About last night. Thank you @pppiccioli and @balenciaga. I’ve missed you France — thanks for the love.”
However, one short clip drew criticism. In the video, Meghan was seen resting her feet on a car seat while driving through Paris — reportedly near the tunnel where Princess Diana was fatally injured in 1997. Some social media users called the post “insensitive,” while others defended her, saying the backlash was overblown.
Despite the controversy, Meghan’s return to the European fashion scene was seen by many as a confident and stylish comeback — one that even Anna Wintour couldn’t help but admire.
