Kate Middleton Announcement Issued By Palace After Major Update

Kensington Palace has released another statement on the Princess of Wales, following her unexpected public appearance on Sunday (September 8).

Kate joined Prince William at a memorial event marking three years since the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The appearance came as a surprise to royal watchers, as the princess had not been scheduled to attend. Earlier this year, palace aides had stressed that she would be focusing on her recovery from cancer throughout 2025 rather than undertaking a busy slate of engagements.

Her presence alongside William was warmly received, and just hours before the event, Kensington Palace confirmed that she would be there.

The update comes at the same time as Prince Harry’s return to the United Kingdom for the WellChild Awards, an event he has long supported as patron. While his trip is brief, it remains unclear whether he will reunite with any of his estranged family members during the visit. King Charles and Queen Camilla are currently at Balmoral and have no public engagements scheduled this week.

Kate’s Health Journey

The Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, following weeks of speculation about her absence from royal duties. In a video message, she explained:

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Since then, Kate has been balancing her recovery with carefully chosen public appearances, slowly easing back into her role.

New Engagements Announced

Alongside Sunday’s surprise outing, Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate will carry out two official visits later this week. On September 11, she is scheduled to tour Silk Mills in Sudbury, Suffolk, followed by a visit to Marina Mill in Cuxton, Kent.

A statement from the palace said: “Her Royal Highness’s visit will highlight the rich heritage of the British textile industry and celebrate the joy found in working in the creative industries.”

The palace added that Kate has long been passionate about the importance of textiles as part of Britain’s cultural and creative identity.

The visits will coincide with the final day of Prince Harry’s stay in the UK. The Duke of Sussex last saw King Charles in February 2024, when he flew in immediately after hearing of his father’s cancer diagnosis. That meeting was brief, lasting just half an hour before the King returned to Sandringham.
