Kate Middleton was instrumental in stripping Prince Andrew of his titles: source

Following the shocking decision earlier this week to remove Prince Andrew’s royal titles, new details have surfaced about how the move came to be — and who may have influenced it.

While the final decision rested with King Charles, insiders say the monarch was backed by other senior members of the royal family in taking action against his embattled brother, who will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

“A Female Touch” Behind the Palace Statement

A royal insider told People that many within the palace “sensed a female touch” in the official statement released Thursday, sparking speculation that Queen Camilla and Princess Kate may have played a key role in shaping the tone and decision.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,” the statement from Buckingham Palace read. “Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.”

The statement went on to say: “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, even though he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

The Influence of Camilla, Kate, and William

The final portion of the statement, referencing victims of abuse, reportedly caught public attention for its strong wording. “I would think the Queen had a hand in that,” the source told People, suggesting Queen Camilla, Princess Kate, and even Prince William had encouraged a firm stance. “There would have been a push from Camilla and Catherine, and there was pressure from William, who would not want to inherit the headache,” the insider added.

“It was quite strong, and I was quite proud when I heard it,” they said.

Queen Camilla has long been a vocal advocate for organizations that support victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault, lending further weight to the theory of her involvement.

A Royal Family Focused on the Future

According to palace sources, the royal family is eager to look forward. “This could all be part of that,” one insider said. “William and Catherine are moving soon, and all their comments have been about looking to the future.”

Though Charles and Andrew have never been especially close, the King reportedly felt conflicted. “[Andrew] is his brother, and he will feel some care and affection and concern for him,” the source explained. “But he wouldn’t have wanted to make that decision. He would rather Andrew dealt with it.”

Another royal insider told People that the King had become “exasperated” with Andrew’s ongoing attempts to minimize the allegations against him. “Andrew had been given so many chances and opportunities to do the right thing,” they said. “Charles would be frustrated that he had to make a difficult decision rather than Andrew dealing with it himself. He would find it quite painful.”

Renewed Scrutiny Over Epstein Ties

The decision to strip Andrew of his remaining privileges comes amid renewed pressure following reports suggesting that he continued associating with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein long after claiming to have severed contact.

The sexual misconduct allegations against Andrew — which he continues to deny — stem from claims by Virginia Giuffre, who says she was trafficked by Epstein and forced into sex with the prince when she was underage.

When Andrew announced in a previous statement that he was giving up his Duke of York title and other honors, he notably did not mention victims or survivors, something the latest royal statement appeared to address directly.

Life After Royal Lodge

As part of the decision, Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will also move out of Royal Lodge, where she had continued to live despite their divorce in 1996.

According to BBC News, Andrew did not object to King Charles’s ruling, and the British government has expressed its support for the move.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, Andrew’s daughters, will retain their titles as the family works to close this controversial chapter and move toward what palace insiders describe as a “new era” for the monarchy.
