Today, King Charles honoured his son and heir of the throne Prince William with a new role – Great Master of the Order of the Bath.

A ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey on Friday.

Amid the occasion, new snaps of William and Charles are being shared, including a very special snap.

While Charles’ appearance in the photograph has received praised, it also echoes family tradition, showcasing how Charles has handed this role to William like his mother Queen Elizabeth II did to him.

Today marks 300 years since the Order of the Bath’s founding and Prince William has been installed as the new Great Master of the Order.

Charles held the same title for nearly five decades.

Prince William becomes Great Master of the Order of the Bath

Today, May 16, marked King Charles‘ first time attending the service as Sovereign of the Order. He became appointed as Great Master himself by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975.

Despite William taking over the role, it seems Charles was star of the show at the ceremony today.

This is the best picture of the King and Prince William so far.

Royal fans have flocked to social media to gush over Charles’ “majestic” looks.

Evidently, fans appeared impressed by the 76-year-old’s appearance.

William and Charles could be seen photographed inside the Abbey, sporting the traditional garb.

Royal fans react

One social media user penned: “This is the best picture of the king and Prince William so far. The one we have been waiting for! Truly majestic.”

“I do hope we get a few more of them together. It is an excellent picture,” said another.

Another compared the photo with a similar image taken when Queen Elizabeth II handed down the title to Charles in the 70s.

They said: “Let’s pray for a portrait photo, like this one,” alongside a photo of Charles and his mother wearing the same ceremonial clothing whilst beaming.

What is The Most Honourable Order of the Bath?

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was founded by King George I in 1725, reviving a medieval knighthood tradition. The name refers to the symbolic bath that knights once took as part of a ritual purification before receiving their honours.

Now, the Order recognises senior military officers and high-ranking civil servants across three tiers.

The tiers are as follows: Knight/Dame Grand Cross (GCB), Knight/Dame Commander (KCB/DCB), and Companion (CB).

The service takes place every four years.

Prince William’s future as king

It comes as increasing reports swirl over the future of the monarchy with William as king.

Consequently, this new role adds to William’s growing list of responsibilities.

Royal expert and author Tom Quinn recently told Harper’s Bazaar that he feels William and Kate will be a “much more emotionally engaged” king and queen.

He said: “I think they want to be a king and queen who are seen to engage much more with ordinary people in a very relaxed way.”
