Prince Harry revealed Meghan Markle’s one-word joke that did not sit well with Kate Middleton

Prince Harry recalled a moment when Meghan Markle cracked an awkward joke during an important royal event — but it seems Kate Middleton didn’t find it amusing.

It’s no secret that the bond once shared by the so-called “Fab Four” has become tense over the years.

Since Meghan and Harry stepped back from their royal duties in 2020, and with the release of documentaries, interviews, and Harry’s book, tensions within the family have only grown.

Meghan has openly admitted that she knew very little about royal traditions and expectations before joining the family as the Duchess of Sussex.

So, during major events like Trooping the Colour, it’s understandable that her nerves may have led her to make light-hearted remarks — even if they didn’t land well with everyone.

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry shared an awkward moment between Meghan and Kate during Meghan’s first Trooping the Colour appearance in 2018, which took place just after the couple’s honeymoon.

Harry recalled that Kate asked Meghan how she found the event, and Meghan jokingly replied, “Colourful.” However, the joke didn’t land well.

Prince Harry described the moment as being followed by “a yawning silence that threatened to swallow us all whole.”

At the time, Harry and Meghan had only been married for three weeks, and he was seen checking on her throughout the day.

According to Hello!, a lip reader noticed Harry turning to Meghan and asking, “OK?”, to which she responded, “Yeah, are you?”

The couple attended the Trooping the Colour again the following year and were also invited back in 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations — just months before her passing.

While visiting the Army Air Corps in Wattisham, Suffolk earlier this week, Prince William made a rare comment about his family dynamics.

He referred to family as a “mixed bag,” a remark many believe was a subtle nod to his complicated relationship with Prince Harry. He said: “Some of them might not want to see you that much. It’s a mixed bag sometimes.”

Back in 2019, Prince Harry opened up more directly about their relationship during an interview with ABC. He admitted: “Inevitably stuff happens. But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers.”

He went on to say: “We’re on different paths at the moment, but I will always be there for him, and he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to, because we’re so busy.”

However, it seems their bond may have shifted over the years, with recent signs suggesting some distance between the two.
