Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and youngest son of King Charles III, stepped back from his role as a senior working royal in 2020. Now 40, he lives in the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Since stepping away from royal life, Harry has faced a series of personal and public setbacks involving his family. According to Woman magazine, via The Mirror, royal commentator Emily Andrews says the duke has now “reached a tipping point.”
“It has been humiliation after humiliation for Prince Harry,” Andrews stated.
The first of these reported humiliations took place earlier this year, when Harry returned to the U.K. to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Despite being in the country, he was unable to secure a meeting with his father, King Charles, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Though it was publicly stated that the King’s schedule was too full, royal expert Charlotte Griffiths suggested the situation may have been more complicated.
“There is some talk that behind the scenes, a lot of negotiating went on,” Griffiths told GB News. “I think the reason was because Harry made certain demands about who could be in the room and who couldn’t. Although on the surface it looks like a snub, Harry made it very difficult for his father.”
She also implied that other influences may have been at play, including Prince William. “William may have had a thought about how this meeting should be conducted or whether it should be conducted at all,” she added.
At the time, a spokesperson for Prince Harry responded with a statement: “The duke, of course, is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
Then came the King’s second official birthday parade on June 15 — an important royal celebration. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were noticeably absent. The last time they attended the event was in 2022, though even then they didn’t appear on the balcony or take part in the formal procession.
While they weren’t present this year, the couple reportedly reached out to Princess Kate, who recently re-emerged in public following her cancer treatment.
“They’ve jointly reached out to send well wishes, but they’re still not really in a place with Kate to warrant much of a response,” a source told Closer magazine. Still, the source added, this “hasn’t stopped them from trying to connect.”
The third blow to Harry came in the form of his absence from the wedding of the Duke of Westminster — described as the society event of the year. Though Harry and Meghan were apparently invited, they declined.
Royal reporter Emily Andrews claimed the couple chose not to attend because the situation would have been “too awkward,” particularly given Harry’s ongoing tension with Prince William, who was also among the guests.
This growing sense of distance from his former life has reportedly taken a toll. A source told Radar Online that Harry feels increasingly cut off from British high society.
“There are some days when Harry says he can’t take it anymore — the slights, the coldness coming from the palace, it’s like he’s no longer a part of that family,” the insider said.
